Great Platform, Confused Users, How We Helped AlgoTest Fix the Way It Talked About Itself

Great Platform, Confused Users, How We Helped AlgoTest Fix the Way It Talked About Itself

Positioning & Messaging

Most platforms lose users to bad product experience. AlgoTest's problem was different — the product worked, but the story around it didn't.

10,000+ signups a month, but no clear narrative, no segmented messaging, and a core philosophy buried under feature descriptions. We interviewed 150+ users across four trader segments, benchmarked the competition, and found a positioning gap nobody in the space had claimed.

The output was a complete messaging framework and landing page copy built around one anchor — test first, trade later.

About The Company

About The Company

AlgoTest is a no-code options trading platform for retail traders in India. Traders build and test strategies using drag-and-drop tools, no coding required.

The platform covers the full trading workflow: strategy building, backtesting against historical data, paper trading with live market data, and live execution.

The Challenge

AlgoTest had built real momentum, strong community, trading courses, and a steady stream of signups. The product was genuinely good. But the messaging wasn't doing it justice.

Three gaps kept showing up:

No connecting narrative. The platform had powerful features, but nothing tied them together into a story users could grasp quickly.

Too technical for most visitors. Messaging spoke to experts. Broader audiences bounced.

Complexity overshadowed value. Competitors had simpler narratives. AlgoTest felt harder to understand by comparison.

The "test first, trade later" philosophy was buried. It needed to be the headline.

The Objective

The Objective

Our job was to give AlgoTest a messaging foundation that could scale — one that spoke clearly to every trader type, from first-timers to power users.

Map user feedback to specific journey stages to find where communication broke down

Benchmark Sensibull, Stockmock, and Opstra to find AlgoTest's white space

Write landing page copy that spoke to each trader persona without losing technical credibility

Our Approach

Our Approach

Our Approach

We talked directly with the users to understand the pain points and opportunities. It helped us understand what we could improve within the platform.

We needed to define the differentiation in simpler terms first, then build a complete GTM foundation around it. So, we structured the engagement in a way that solved the value proposition problem before touching any tactical assets and going beyond.

Based on this qualitative data and competitor benchmarking, we worked on the landing page copy.

The Solution

The Solution

The Solution

1. Listening to Real Users

We ran call-based qualitative research across four segments: Beginners, Activated users, Course-takers, and Churned users. Not surveys, actual conversations.

We ran deep-dive workshops with founders and the product team and reviewed previous decks, proposals, and website drafts to understand Cobalt's market position and where we could improve the messaging

Each group had a different version of "this isn't working for me."

Need

Better guidance and easier feature discovery

Clearer value prop and competitive advantages

Actionable strategies and migration support

Simple strategies and fast troubleshooting

These weren't just messaging problems. They were friction points in the product journey that better communication could directly address.

2. Reading the Competitive Landscape

With user insights mapped, we looked outward. We evaluated Sensibull, Stockmock, and Opstra across pricing models, feature depth, marketing narratives, and customer sentiment.

One pattern was impossible to ignore:

Image
Coming Soon

Competitors had their angles. AlgoTest had an angle nobody had claimed. A process-first approach — put disciplined testing before putting real money at risk — was sitting unclaimed in the middle of the market.

3. Building the Positioning

User insights on one side. Competitive gaps on the other. The positioning followed naturally.

We developed a comprehensive messaging document anchored on one core idea:

Make advanced trading tools accessible to retail traders — and give them the discipline to use those tools well.

AlgoTest's
answer

"Test first, trade later" as the operating philosophy

40+ brokers vs. competitors' 6

Messaging built around trader journeys, not feature lists

With this foundation, AlgoTest could speak consistently across every channel — same story, adapted for each audience.

4. Rewriting the Landing Page

The core shift was simple: stop describing the platform. Start describing what traders could achieve.

We anchored the entire page around one value proposition:

"Build, test, simulate, and trade options — all from one app."

For each product (Strategy Builder and Simulator), we led with outcomes first, features second. The competitive analysis gave us proof points to back up claims without sounding like marketing — specific, verifiable, concrete.

The result was a landing page that walked each trader type through their decision at their own pace — matching the "test first, trade later" mindset they were already arriving with.

Brand Clarity
AlgoTest now has a single, ownable philosophy that holds across every touchpoint. The "test first, trade later" anchor gave the whole team — not just marketing — a shared language.

Sharper Positioning
In a market selling speed and shortcuts, AlgoTest differentiated by advocating disciplined process. A counterintuitive bet. A genuine white space.

Segmented Messaging

Beginners, discretionary traders, and advanced users each had a path that spoke to their specific stage — not a catch-all pitch that resonated with no one.

We were so focused on building features that we forgot to explain why any of it mattered. Now we have a story that works for a beginner and an advanced trader at the same time. That's hard to do.
